Learning about temples (For beginners) Course

We encourage any foreigner residing in Japan or visiting Japan to learn to manners of the temple and visit one of the many temples all over Japan. We welcome you.

Outline

This is a course to learn about the Buddhists beliefs, how to visit a temple, proper etiquette, etc.

Objective

Understand Buddhism and temples so can put in practice and understanding at a temple near you.

Wednesday (every other week)
7:30 to 9:00 am

All three visits/ one visit 90 minutes

N3 level or higher

Material

Original teaching materials (Sutras, Japanese vocabulary, etc.)

Delivery Method

・Only in Japanese utilizing ZOOM (*with Japanese support).

・Read Buddhist text “”Sutra”” → Buddhist story (hojo, causality, impermanence, etc.) → Basic knowledge of temples (gassho style, differences in denominations, daily life of temples, etc.) → Discussion/ Summary
